Google is turning Android customization into an AI-generated experience with a new Gemini-powered feature that allows users to create widgets simply by describing what they want.
The feature, called “Create My Widget,” was unveiled during Google’s Android Show: I/O Edition 2026 and introduces what many developers are already calling “vibe-coded widgets”, interface elements generated through natural language prompts instead of manual coding.
Rather than forcing users to design layouts, configure APIs, or build widgets through developer tools, Google wants Gemini to handle the heavy lifting automatically. Users can simply describe a widget idea conversationally, and the AI generates a functional Android widget in response.
For years, Android widgets have remained one of the platform’s most flexible but underused features.

The term “vibe coding” has recently gained popularity inside the AI developer community to describe creating software through conversational prompting rather than structured programming.
Until now, most vibe-coding tools targeted developers using AI copilots or code-generation platforms. Google’s widget initiative pushes the concept toward mainstream consumers for the first time.
